Audit the glide. Calculate the aerodynamic efficiency (L/D ratio) of an airframe and predict the maximum gliding range in the event of engine failure.
L/D is synonymous with glide ratio. At a ratio of 20.0, the aircraft will travel 20.0 meters forward for every 1 meter of altitude lost. This is the single most important metric for fuel efficiency in long-haul aviation.
