Audit the clamping force of critical fasteners. Calculate required torque and resulting preload based on bolt grade, friction coefficients (K-factor), and safety margins.
The "Nut Factor" (K) accounts for 90% of the uncertainty in bolt preload. If your bolts are dry and rusty (K=0.3), you may need 50% more torque to achieve the same clamping force compared to zinc-plated bolts. Always verify critical joints with ultrasonic tension measuring if possible.
